Another glittering award for one of the world’s greatest footballers, Cristiano Ronaldo. The Portugal international lifted the prestigious honour by firing home 40 goals in Spain’s La Liga last season - nine more goals than any other player in the top division of a European league. It was the second time that Ronaldo had won the award, making him the eighth player to join that elite band.
"There are more important things, such as winning as a team for the fans, who expect a lot from us, who expect a very important trophy, so I wouldn’t chose this instead of any other cup, the Liga, or Champions League"
"It is good to compete with the best. I like to compete with Messi and with all the best players in Europe"
"That [the Balon d’Or] is opinion, votes. This [Golden Boot] is on merit."
"We don’t compare ourselves with Barca or any other team. We have our own style of play. If Madrid wins, I win. What I want is that for Madrid to win."
"If not everyone likes God, what chance do I have?"
Away from talk about himself, he also talked about the future of another famous Portuguese. “Mr. Mourinho is doing perfect here in Real Madrid. I hope he will stay with us for many years.”
Upon winning The Golden Boot 2011, Cristiano Ronaldo became the first player to win this award in two different leagues.
